If you like dystopian novels, you will enjoy this one. The author did a great job setting up a society ravaged by a deadly strain of flu. The main characters were well developed with strong and likeable personalities. What would you do if society collapsed around you?This is part two. It continues the saga from Pandemic. As gangs take over their neighborhood, the group takes off on a 700 mile trip to central California in hopes of finding refuge.What I enjoyed:• The opening scene caught my interest right away. It was very intense. The Bronsons, Jeff, Emily, Chris and his family, and Derrick try to escape past the roadblocks set up by the gangs.• The descriptions of locations and emotions were well done, easy to visualize, and to feel. I felt a part of the scenes.• I was caught up in the story the whole way through.• The pacing of this story was good. It was not too fast nor too slow.• There was a lot of action and suspense in this story.• There were twists and turns to the plot, so it was not predictable.• The story is told through the main characters: Matt, Jessica, Derrick Jeff, and Chris• This was a clean read.The story ended in a perfect spot. I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book. While I rated the first as 4+, there is no plus I can give this one. Still a solid 4 though.This book seemed like a "softer and friendlier" story line. It really should have been a little more intense IMHO. Still, like the first book, I think it's very believable, especially in presenting the actions and reactions of "regular folk" who not only survived the pandemic, but also did some minor preparation. I do think the characters would have (should have?) become just a bit more hardened in this book. I still recommend it. It was another quick and easy read. Absolutely nothing wrong with that and a solid, believable story, as I said. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. I can certainly recommend this book.
